Social media can be great for staying connected, networking and sharing information. But let’s face it – it can also be time consuming and detrimental to your mental health if not kept in check. This week Dr. Nicole is talking to Amber Thornton, Founder of Mindful Media LLC to discuss social media and mental health as well as the app she created to help us limit our social media use while enhancing our mindfulness
Amber Lois Thornton is the founder of Mindful Media LLC., which provides access to a mobile application–encouraging limited social media exposure and mindfulness practices. Amber, after being personally impacted by social media overload, has designed this application in pursuit of advocating for mental health stability. In this particular field, Amber holds over 10+ years of experience assisting and advocating for those facing mental health issues–that may stem from social media overload. This application is unique in its ability to provide reports, resources and insights to all things mental health related; Mindful Media will be available Winter 2021, where their motto is ‘Be Mindful, Monitor Media’.

Great content! I agree with everything said on this podcast! I truly look forward to the mindful media app! It’s important to have balance in the world that we live in. We have so much going on from bombings, sex trafficking, police brutality, celebrity news, gossip and or just simply watching our peers on the daily and even saying “watching” doesn’t even feel right. I’ve felt everything that Amber said in this interview and me personally a lot of my low vibrational energy came from social media. I felt at my age I wasn’t far enough, or working a 9-5 isn’t the ideal plan, my natural hair wasn’t good enough, I need longer hair, or a bbl, so many different things, so many different triggers and these are just examples. Social media played a huge part of many of my break ups but at the end of the day it was my choice to indulge! It’s important to know if social media is for you. It’s a resource, yes it’s used to socialized but honestly the social norm now a days is business! And if business moves or connections aren’t properly being embraced you may have an attachment. I recently gave up social media to get back to me. The focus should always be you and if social media isn’t beneficial to your wealth, health and self! A break won’t hurt. But anyway great energy! Amber is a gem to us all! Thank you for a great source of knowledge and well being to our communities all over the world!
